Thank you! I don't know whereabouts in Canada you live, but in Ontario this has been a banner year for Snowies. If you follow bird reports like Ontbirds, you can discover where they have been seen. Many will stay in the same location as long as the food supply lasts. The one in this picture was reliable for more than a month.

Thank you! In the case of this Snowy, I knew exactly where it had been spotted so I went to that exact location. I am also familiar with the best places to find birds in this area, so my odds of finding something to shoot are better than average.
There has been a really big irruption this year. all over the lower 48 They have seen a record of them this year and some sightings along the coast near me, but I don't always get the chance to go investigate sightings since the places near me where they have turned up are still a distance and the weather has just been cold and icy.
