Thanks Adie! :) Yes, it's fairly shallow there and I noticed that I could see the ducks as they approached the surface, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Wow, what an unusual duck photo!  On the thumbnail I couldn't tell what it was.  I, too, got a turtle-ey vibe off it.  Great work showing us this glimpse!

Thank you very much! :)
It is remarkable how these ducks have evolved so they can hunt for food underwater. I read one article that said Long-tailed Ducks can dive to depths approaching 200 feet! Amazing!

Thank you! :)
It is definitely not a typical 'bird' shot. Lol.

Great shot, Garry! I remember you telling me how elusive a great surfacing photo was, but you can take that off of the list now.

Thanks Chris! :)
Usually the water is too choppy for this kind of shot, but on Sunday as I was waiting for the duck to return to the surface (so I could get a more 'classic' shot of him) I noticed that he was visible beneath the water. I took a couple of shots, and this one I think gave the best view of the bird.

That's what I thought too! It's like it uses part of its wings as front flippers. :D
